So you just opened Super Ninja Adventure for the first time and you're not entirely sure what's happening. That's totally fine โ€” I was in that exact position. The game doesn't have a lengthy tutorial, and it throws you into the action pretty fast. This guide is everything I wish someone had told me before I started. If you absorb even half of this, your first hour with the game is going to be a lot less frustrating and a lot more fun.

What Kind of Game Is This?

Super Ninja Adventure is a side-scrolling platformer. That means the camera follows your ninja character from left to right, and your job is to navigate through levels filled with platforms, enemies, and obstacles to reach the exit. Think classic platformer energy โ€” but with a ninja theme and some satisfying slash combat layered on top.

It runs entirely in your browser. No downloads, no app install, no account required. Just open the page, hit play, and you're in. That accessibility is one of the best things about it โ€” you can pick it up and put it down whenever you want.

The Controls: Learn These First

Before anything else, get comfortable with how your ninja moves. Here's the full control breakdown:

Action Keyboard Mobile
Move Left / Right Arrow Keys or A / D Left / Right on-screen buttons
Jump Up Arrow or W or Space Jump button
Attack / Slash X or Z or Ctrl Attack button
Crouch / Duck Down Arrow or S Down button

Take a few minutes just running around in level one without trying to progress. Practice jumping โ€” short tap versus long hold. Practice slashing while standing. Then practice slashing while in the air. Once those three things feel natural, you're ready to actually play the levels properly.

Your First Session: What to Focus On

When I started Super Ninja Adventure, I made the classic beginner mistake of rushing. I wanted to see new levels, so I just sprinted through. That approach will work for about two stages before it completely falls apart. Here's the mindset that actually works:

Slow down at new obstacles

Every time you see something you haven't seen before โ€” a new type of enemy, a moving platform, a spike arrangement you don't recognize โ€” stop. Watch it. Understand what it does before you try to deal with it. Dying once because you didn't know about something is fine. Dying five times in a row because you keep rushing the same thing without thinking is the actual frustration.

Don't ignore health pickups

Health drops in Super Ninja Adventure appear as glowing items on the ground or floating in the air. Even if you feel like you don't need health right now, pick them up. You almost certainly will need it before the level ends. There's no inventory system โ€” health you skip is health you lose.

Enemies respawn when you return to an area

If you die and restart a checkpoint, enemies come back. Don't be surprised by this. It also means you can't just memorize "I cleared this area already" โ€” you need to clear it again every time you pass through.

Common Beginner Mistakes (I Made All of These)

  • Jumping too early on moving platforms: Always watch a moving platform complete at least half its cycle before jumping. Jumping the moment you see it often means landing on the wrong side.
  • Mashing attack: The slash attack has a small recovery animation. If you spam it too fast, you'll freeze up right when an enemy is walking toward you. One clean, timed slash beats three frantic ones.
  • Ignoring the upper paths: Most levels have a lower path that's more obvious and an upper path that requires a bit of platforming to reach. The upper path almost always has better rewards and is often actually easier once you're on it.
  • Forgetting to duck: Some enemies throw projectiles at head height. Crouching dodges them entirely. This isn't obvious at first but becomes important in mid-game.
  • Running past ranged enemies: Archers and ranged enemies will keep shooting at you from off-screen. Kill them or they'll disrupt your next section too.

Understanding the Health System

Your ninja starts each level with a set amount of health, shown as a bar in the corner of the screen. Taking a hit reduces it. Reaching zero means you restart from the last checkpoint (or the beginning of the level if there are no checkpoints). Health can be recovered by picking up health drops scattered through each level.

In the early levels, there are fairly generous health pickups. The game is teaching you that recovering health is possible, so you don't feel like every mistake is devastating. By the mid-game, health pickups become less frequent โ€” this is intentional. The game expects you to be taking fewer hits by then.

Checkpoints: How They Work

Checkpoints appear as glowing objects mid-level. When you pass through one, your progress is saved to that point. If you die after a checkpoint, you restart from there rather than the beginning of the level. This is important โ€” if you see a checkpoint coming up, make sure you actually walk through it rather than jumping over it.

I've accidentally skipped checkpoints by jumping to a higher platform and bypassing them entirely. Don't do that. Walk through every checkpoint you see. The few seconds it takes to grab it could save you several minutes of replaying the same section.

A Note on Mobile Play

Super Ninja Adventure works on mobile through on-screen touch buttons. It's a solid experience, though I personally find keyboard play a little more precise for the trickier platforming sections. If you're playing on a phone, make sure your screen brightness is up โ€” some of the darker levels can be hard to read on a dim display. Also, landscape orientation gives you the widest view of the level, which I strongly recommend.

What to Work Toward

As a beginner, your first goal should simply be completing the early levels without too many deaths. Once you get comfortable, start trying to collect every health pickup and explore upper paths. After that, you'll naturally start noticing the patterns in enemy behavior and platform timing โ€” that's when the game starts to really open up and feel satisfying.

Don't worry about speed in the beginning. Don't worry about dying. Just focus on understanding each new mechanic as it appears, and you'll build a solid foundation that carries you through the whole game.
